Talk Art is the brainchild of Actor Russell Tovey and gallerist Robert Diament. Each episode explores their adventures at Frieze Art Fair, the Turner Prize, South London Gallery, other exhibition highlights, as well as Robert’s gallery, relocated to Margate, Kent. Always with a special guest, in a casual conversation style, exploring their careers and connections with art.
I was delighted to attend their first live Talk Art Podcast with guest London Hughes. A British comedian, television writer and presenter; Winner of the prestigious Funny Women Awards.
The event was hosted at Kings Place during the 4th Edition of London Podcast Festival in September 2019, sponsored by Spotify and Acast podcast platforms. The Festival counted with 60 other podcasts, including Have you Heard George’s Podcast, The Guilty Feminism, Throwing Shade, Black Men Can’t Jump [In Hollywood], The Adam Buxton, to name just a few.

Although the episode was recorded live at the Festival in September 2019, it was released only on 26 of December 2019 – “It’s the holidays… and our gift to you is the gift of laughter!!! What better way to celebrate Christmas than to chat (and laugh lots) with our dear friend LONDON HUGHES??!!” Among many other subjects – “London explains why her favourite museum is the Peggy Guggenheim in Venice and her admiration for Peggy’s support of then-unknown artists!!”
Russell and Rob had met London Hughes at the last Edinburgh Art Festival. The same city where they had met.
“Edinburgh’s creative and cultural scene is completely unique,” says Russell, “Robert and I couldn’t wait to go back – especially having first met there ten years ago – to discover more about the city off the beaten track through the eyes of its artists and creatives”.

It was indeed an enjoyable 2 hours exploring their time in Edinburgh Festival, and London Hughes life journey and future projects.

Since then, they had interviewed different artists and creatives minds as Sir Michael Craig-Martin CBE, Tracey Emin CBE, Luke Evans, Zawe Ashton.
